Commonweal will be closing public access to the open spaces, trails and access roads of the GBP effective Thursday, May 26, 2022. The trails and open spaces of the GBP will remain closed until the organization determines public access can be safely and responsibly accommodated later this summer or fall.

REI AWARDS COMMONWEAL CONSERVANCY A $15,000 GRANT FOR TRAIL BUILDING AND IMPROVEMENTS AT THE GALISTEO BASIN PRESERVE

In its fifth year of grant-making to Commonweal Conservancy, REI announced an extraordinary gift of $15,000 to develop a new multi-use trail and improve trailhead access and parking at the Galisteo Basin Preserve. The Preserve’s trail network includes 26 miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails. Over the past ten years, the trails of the Preserve have grown in popularity to become one of the region’s most beloved recreational resources. According to recent surveys, the Preserve trails are enjoyed by more than 20,000 hikers, mountain-bikersand equestrians each year.

The PNM Power UP Grant will support the construction of a 60-­seat outdoor amphitheater at the Galisteo Basin Preserve. The Power Up Grant initiative is a $500,000 investment in the communities PNM serves across the state. The purpose of the grant initiative is to fund innovative projects that improve the quality of life and help build stronger communities in New Mexico. The Foundation received over 100 Power Up grant proposals that ranged from building pocket parks and sports fields to revitalizing vacant lots and increasing wheelchair accessibility to recreation facilities.
